Description:

Reporting into the Deputy General Counsel and COLP/MLRO, this role will be a critical part of the team providing advice and guidance, and ensuring the highest standards are upheld across the law firm and our consultancy businesses.

As the firm enters its next stage of growth, this role will require a flexible and agile approach to their work, with the ability to turn their hand to a multitude of tasks with a solutions-focussed approach. The role will involve daily interaction with a range of key stakeholders across the Mishcon de Reya Group and therefore strong interpersonal and communications skills are essential. An appetite for continuous development and striving to ensure the highest legal standards and advice are maintained is non-negotiable.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regulatory / Professional Conduct:Advising Partners and Lawyers on general compliance queries and regulatory issues including those relating to professional conduct and Code of Conduct rules.
  • Working in close collaboration with the Claims Team and GC function to manage both internal and external investigations.
  • Working in close collaboration with the Claims Team and GC function to respond to general SRA related enquires.
  • Responsible for authorisation related issues - FA10b (BOOM) review and approvals, RFLs, license applications and so forth.
  • Supporting the team's PA in overseeing the practising certificate renewals process.
  • Supporting new Partner authorisation and applications.
  • Supporting with general queries including those from our People Team and wider Business Operations Teams.

Supporting the GC function

  • Supporting the General Counsel team (including COLP, MLRO and MLCO) with general queries, advice and other ad-hoc work.
  • Have a good understanding of Inside Dealing and information barriers to be able to provide advice to the business where needed.T
  • To develop a good understanding of the firm's retainer letters to be able to provide advice where needed.
  • Provide assistance on matters relating to vulnerable clients.

General

  • Delivering training through our Academy on regulatory matters and other key issues identified.
  • Point person for updating My SRA - working knowledge of the SRA website and procedures for maintaining entries, with the support of the team's PA.
  • Working knowledge of risk management principles.
  • Good drafting skills to be able to write and update policies, as well as other documents when required.
  • Ability to support internal audit matters where required.
  • Able to act as a mentor and provide ongoing support to members of the wider department.

Solicitor Account Rules

• Good working knowledge of Solicitor Account Rules - able to work collaboratively with our Finance function and provide advice where required (and/or appetite and willingness to learn and grow within this area).

• Supporting Accounts team in relating to Breech Register and other related COFA activities.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Approximately 5+ years PQE experience as a qualified lawyer.
  • Substantial experience dealing with SRA regulatory issues and interest in risk management.
  • Proven experience in advising senior stakeholders on SRA and conduct issues.
  • Working knowledge of interpreting Solicitors Accounts Rule.
  • Experience of liaising with international offices is desirable, but not essential.
  • Proven experience of managing key processes and procedures is crucial. Project management skills is desirable, but not essential.

  • Flexible and agile approach to the workload, with the ability to work in close collaboration with the Deputy General Counsel and other members of the team.
