Brandwatch is looking for a self-motivated individual who loves improving application performance. Join our Engineering team to champion performance, deliver fast applications, and drive our platform to architectural excellence.

As a part of the Quality Engineering Team, you will focus on testing Java-based applications with use of performance testing tools like Gatling, Locust etc. You will need to monitor the performance of applications via monitoring tools like APM, Grafana, Kibana/Splunk, JConsole/JVisualVm. You will also test and analyze system capacity, reliability, and scalability, and provide performance tuning recommendations to the development teams.

This will be a new role in the organization so you will have the opportunity to help shape the role’s responsibilities and functions, but, you will need to be able to work independently with minimum supervision.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and support E2E Performance testing for Java-based Containerized Applications
  • Conduct systems-capacity planning and provide recommendations
  • Troubleshoot performance issues and identify bottlenecks by profiling and providing tuning recommendations
  • Research and develop tools and frameworks to evaluate the performance of the platform
  • Create and evangelize performance standards across software applications and teams
  • Develop fully automated systems for accurate, consistent, and reliable measurement of performance metrics

How You Will Do It

  • Coordinate with the product team, and stakeholders, conduct deep dive analysis on issues, should provide tuning recommendations
  • Provide suggestions for code and infrastructure improvements
  • Work with engineering leaders and project management to develop a prioritized test strategy with well-defined goals

What You'll Need

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in software development with a focus on scaling the infrastructure and debugging performance issues, - DevOps, systems engineering, or software performance engineering
  • Experience in Object-Oriented Programming language(s), preferably Java
  • Should be able to conduct detailed modeling, and strategize solutions to meet performance testing and engineering goals
  • Interested in data analysis and evaluation of performance and usage data
  • Able to design and create tools that exercise our platform and measure platform performance
  • Experienced in Agile/Sprint level methodologies

Nice to have

  • Good knowledge of SQL and proven knowledge of Postgres database
  • Good knowledge of Kafka, Solr, Container services (like Kubernetes), and AWS services like s3, sqs, sns etc.
  • Experience with analyzing Application server and Web server logs to identify errors and tracing
  • Ability to collect and analyze database query plans
  • Experience with identification of Deadlocks and analysis of Thread dumps and Heap dumps (AIX, JAVA, CLR)
  • Able to analyze Garbage Collections logs, and have a good understanding of Garbage Collection algorithms
  • Able to perform various load variation tests like peak, stress, spike, endurance, capacity validation, and resiliency readiness execution cycles
