Description:

We’re Charlie, and we’re on a mission to equip thousands of startups and ambitious small businesses to deliberately craft their culture every day.

Charlie builds progressive HR solutions for startups and ambitious small businesses to successfully manage their teams and intentionally craft their culture.

We’re looking for a Junior Product Designer to join our growing design team – and help us build meaningful experiences for the evolving world of work. 🚀

Come on and join us to make work better! 💙

What is a "Product Designer 1"?

We have a career progression framework that includes Individual Contributor (IC) and People Manager (PM) tracks. IC1 is a junior designer, IC4 is a senior designer, and IC levels 2 and 3 cover that middle area.

In this role you will:

As a junior product designer you’ll be responsible for:

  • Becoming a valued part of a cross-functional team. You'll be collaborating with designers, developers and product managers as well as with the wider design function create the best outcome for our customers.
  • Working end-to-end across the design process to design high-quality products. You'll be designing from low to high fidelity, according to our design principles and UX/UI heuristics (and you know when to increase in fidelity).
  • Working with others to better understand our customers' complex needs on a nuanced level and testing your work with customers to refine its value and usability.
  • Developing your skills and expertise in areas of product design to eventually lead on impactful changes to our software.

Requirements:

You can have no experience or you can have 1-2 years of Product Design experience. We'd love to hear from you either way - all that matters is who you are and what you can do.

A portfolio which helps us understand your Product Design approach and experience so far whether it's from work, education, or personal projects. Ideally your portfolio will show us the approach you took and what you learned, rather than just final designs.

A desire to learn, and hone your craft. You’ll be surrounded by talented designers, product managers and engineers, etc. We cultivate an environment where everyone shares and learns from each other. It helps us all improve.

Self-awareness and humility – you know that honest feedback is how you grow, and you’re not afraid to ask for help.

Let us know if you have (all of these are desirable, but none are required):

  • Work experience in the tech industry
  • Experience with design systems
  • Experience running workshops

We will still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the above requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them absolutely perfectly!

This is a permanent full-time role. We cannot offer visa sponsorship and you must be able to work in the UK.

  • Live anywhere in the UK: we have 8 set days per year that we require the team to be together in our London office, but you have the flexibility to live anywhere in the UK
  • 30 bookable "nomad working" days outside of the UK in any timezone each year
  • No fixed working hours; you take ownership over how you get your work done
  • An amazing office space in East London's Second Home, and membership access to their wider London, Lisbon and LA locations.
  • Monthly “exploration days” when you can work on whatever across the company
