We are looking for a Head of Product to complement our Product Management team. The successful candidate will lead the creation of strategies and executions for cross-functional teams of - among others - Product Managers, Engineers and Designers to ensure customer-centricity in all Digital Products surrounding the Peer Review activities.

The area of responsibility includes our existing and future Review Platforms, which are key areas in ensuring a delightful experience for our authors, editors and reviewers and a fast decision for the articles submitted to Frontiers.

Key responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for elaborating the vision and roadmap for the Publishing Platform portfolio, including our Submissions System and Peer Review Forum 

  • You manage a team of Product Managers, ensuring their alignment with the other Product Management units and the coordination with cross-departmental initiatives

  • You are responsible for hiring team members and setting up the appropriate team structures to ensure the swift execution of the Publishing Platform roadmaps and initiatives

  • You are responsible for the key metrics that your teams own, in particular the article decision time in our peer-review process and the accuracy of our Editorial Invitation systems

  • You work in close collaboration with our Product Managers, Product Designers, Software Engineers and Publishing Operations professionals to ensure the most impactful initiatives are executed by your teams

  • You will regularly deep dive into the data generated by your products to bring clarity into the successes and failures of the initiatives within your department

  • You will proactively propose and lead cross-departmental initiatives related to our Objectives and key results (OKRs) 

Requirements:

We seek enthusiastic team players with great initiative and a get-it-done attitude. Candidates must be able to handle a fast-paced work environment while juggling several different tasks at the same time. Excellent organizational, communications, and multi-tasking skills are musts.

Minimum required skills and qualifications include:

  • Ten years of experience in the development of Digital Products, of which five as a product manager

  • Two years in a similar position

  • Previous experience managing a team with mixed seniority profiles

  • Experience with Product Discovery, Cross-functional team setup 

  • Data savviness and fluency, capability to comfortably engage in technical discussions with senior data scientists and experienced machine-learning engineers

  • Ability to deep dive into raw datasets to find key information that will enable you to make decisions for your product 

  • Strong analytical skills and independent, entrepreneurial approach

  • Strong resilience and leadership traits, able to autonomously execute to success projects with a high degree of uncertainty

  • Solid communication skills in English, both written and verbal are an absolute must.

Desirable skills and qualifications:

  • Previous experience in Scientific Publishing and Peer Review systems in particular

  • Previous experience in scale-up environments
