We’re looking for an inspiring strong Lead Developer ( Preferable language PHP) to join our growing team. You’ll be leading the development function for one of our brand-new concepts: Toolbox. An exciting product designed to empower cyber security professionals by providing them with practical knowledge of industry tools. About the role

The product is in the early stages of development as we move from inception through to fruition. This is a chance to work on a modern tech stack without technical debt and to shape the way things are done. We need an inspiring Lead Developer passionate about architecting who can define the best approach and tech for the problems at hand. You’ll play a leading role in defining the team around you and will mentor the team to be their very best. We work in a cross-functional, innovative, experimental and product-focused way. Here engineers are just as much responsible for owning, innovating and crafting the product as everyone else (we are not a feature factory). 

Engineering at Magnetic Rock is focused on solving hard problems without over-engineering. We work with a range of technology stacks ensuring we use the right tool for the job and we empower people to make informed decisions. In order to achieve this, we are a building a team of industry experts keen to follow quality engineering principles.

Typical activities in your week may include:

  • Defining the technical foundations that will enable scalable, resilient and secure product development.
  • Researching and advising on technology choices and industry best practices.
  • Establishing and improving engineering standards, tooling, and processes across product teams.
  • Working to define product strategy in an agile environment alongside Product Managers, Designers and Developers.
  • Conceptualising and building new features – turning designs and ideas into working solutions for customers.
  • Getting stuck in by writing excellent, clean and testable code.
  • Leading by example as you motivate and manage a development team and instil a growth mindset.
  • Interviewing potential new joiners, onboarding new technical hires and defining hiring plans.
  • Good tech- stack best for product approach (PHP preferable)
  • A proven element/understanding of PHP if isn’t first chosen language (as an alternative)
  • Inspiring Team Lead- able to articulate problems/ solutions and experience to date as Lead Developer to a high standard.

About you

Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • You'll be a highly experienced Lead Developer. You have a passion for coding and a track record of developing high quality products that have been successful. You have a strong focus on engineering principles and enjoy staying at the forefront of new technologies and have 'war stories' examples of experience to date in coding, testing, lifecycle and delivering products with leading teams.
  • You'll have a passion for building teams. As we grow rapidly, you will need to instil excellent technical best practices. You will be able to demonstrate/articulate  how you have shaped great teams before and have experience coaching developers. Be able to demonstrate some experiences around running a team.
  • You’ll have a collaborative approach and willingness to learn. You are comfortable working alongside others and welcome opportunity to share knowledge to support understanding. Seeker of knowledge mindset.
  • You'll be familiar with a wealth of technologies and frameworks. These would ideally include: PHP or a strong element/ understanding of PHP, and ReactJS or Twig Alternatively or C#, .NET (C#), JavaScript, MySQL, NodeJS Experience with AWS, GitLab, HTML, CSS would also be great.
  • You'll have a history of delivering high quality products. Working across the business to instil requirements, working with designers, project managers, marketeers and developers to create products that deliver impact. Desirable best for product approach.
