Description:

We are on a mission to up-skill humanity through the invention of new digital products. To make this happen, we are searching for exceptional people that don't stop at great, know when to move fast or slow, are relentlessly curious and, ultimately, care for each other.

We are a start-up design and technology incubator, first tackling the cyber security industry. And we come with the might of a wider group of companies, all with the same ethos and history of achievements.

We're looking for a Visual Designer with experience of product concept design, game or gamified product design, and/or extensive interaction design to work on an exciting set of new product ideas. If that sounds like something you'd be excited about, we'd love to talk.

About the role

As a designer at Magnetic Rock you'll immediately be working on real products which will be shaping the future of education in the cyber security industry. Being an incubator for ambitious product ideas we're leveraging a design-led approach to break through traditional teaching and learning approaches, giving you the independence and support to push the boundaries of what's possible. Within a design-centric culture, led by one of our founders, the Chief Creative Officer, this role will provide you with an environment to grow as a designer whilst also giving you the chance to take strong design ownership of the products you're working on and be part of a growing design team still establishing its approach, processes and design philosophy.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with key stakeholders to understand the problem space, refine the briefs and explore interesting solutions.
  • Creating user flows and low fidelity wireframes and prototypes to explore different conceptual approaches to designing solutions.
  • Designing high fidelity product concepts for a variety of gamified learning experiences, including everything from simple product interfaces through to complex illustrated compositions.
  • Working with product managers and other designers to create working product concepts which can be built and tested with users.

About You

Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Excellent visual design skills, with a solid knowledge of design fundamentals, and experience applying that knowledge to design solutions for complex product, visual and interaction design problems.
  • Previous experience working with stakeholders to refine briefs, as well as explore and understand product challenges and ideas.
  • Experience designing games and/or gamified products, ideally in the edtech space.
  • A strong working knowledge of modern visual and product design tools, like the Adobe suite, Figma, Sketch and others.
  • Strong illustration skills for the purpose of designing gamified user experiences.
  • Ideally, strong interaction design skills, including interface animation using tools like After Effects, Framer, and similar.

The Benefits

We hope that you love your job because of our mission, culture and the work. But, we also put a lot of thought into providing great benefits to make your job that bit sweeter, such as:

  • Flexible & remote working. We are a remote-first business with flexibility for you to work in tandem with your home life. We also have access to an office in the Cotswolds so we still meet up regularly, but more for socials.
  • Great equipment and software. All team members use high spec Mac's and the latest software to make working enjoyable and easy. Plus, we can kit you out with any peripherals you may need.
  • Generous holiday. 28 days plus bank holidays per year, and we close over Christmas.
  • £1,000 annual training bonus. Self-improvement is an important aspect of our values so we are committed to funding your development, every year.
  • Swag bag. We want you to feel welcomed so expect a pretty sweet new starter pack.
  • Private health. We offer Vitality health insurance that comes with its own perks from free cinema tickets to a discounted Apple Watch.
  • Referral programme. We are growing rapidly so if you introduce us to an amazing person who joins us then we'll pay you £1,000 as a little thank you.
  • Thoughtful onboarding. Joining a new company can be daunting, we want you to succeed so we have a programme to get you up to speed with our culture and your role.
  • A bigger team. We're part of a collection of companies (including Helical Levity, Spinning Fox and Secure Impact) run by the same leadership team. So there is lots of shared learning and some epic summer parties.
  • Quick recruitment. We appreciate finding a job is time consuming and often slow, so we aim to move from first interview to offer within two weeks.

About Magnetic Rock

Hello, we're Magnetic Rock, an incubator on a mission to build amazing digital products. Our founders are the same leadership team behind Helical Levity and Spinning Fox, and our first product a capture the flag (CTF) and training delivery platform called Tomahawque, was acquired in less than 18 months..
