About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the team
The E-Commerce team sits within our retail network of around 90 community charity shops that range from small boutiques to large furniture shops. We help the shops sell secondhand items online via the Shelter online shop and via 3rd party marketplaces such as eBay. We also manage a high volume of seasonal sales of new goods, cause related gifts and virtual gifts at Christmas. Our online offer has seen rapid growth over the past two years, with significant turnover during the Christmas peak and success in the launch and promotion of new goods and launch of our secondhand online shop. This is also planned to rapidly expand further in the coming months.
About the role
Your focus will be on building and merchandising effective digital content on the Shelter Online Shop, supporting our product listings of new and second-hand items and maintaining an optimised customer experience on the site. Working closely with E-Commerce, Buying, Shop Support and retail colleagues, we’ll rely on you to ensure product listings are accurate, detailed and support conversion rate improvements and SEO. You’ll also be responsible for managing the collation and upload of all new goods, branded merchandise and virtual gift product data onto the online shop. Monitoring sales and stock levels, developing processes to ensure stock availability is accurately reflected online, optimising category and collection landing pages and supporting promotional and marketing activity – these are just some aspects of this interesting and varied role.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.
About You
To succeed, you’ll need relevant experience, knowledge of content management systems and processes, specifically relating to e-commerce, including stock management and on-site merchandising, plus the know-how to optimise content for online sales. You’ll also need a good understanding of SEO principles and how to apply these in practice. Passionate about providing an excellent online customer experience, you’re comfortable working across multiple teams to source, collate, organise and present product content on an online shop and consulting various stakeholders as required. What’s more, you work well on your own initiative, have excellent attention to detail, great copywriting and image manipulation skills and a genuine interest in sustainable shopping, especially charity retail.
